Course OverviewThis course is designed to introduce the behaviour and design of Metal constructions materials (steel and aluminium alloys) and steel structural members. The behaviour and design of tension members, compression members, laterally restrained and unrestrained beams, beam-columns and design of connections will be discussed.The objective of this course is to provide students with the knowledge to properly design steel structures and be able to provide proper construction details for their design. Course examples will cover both Load and Resistance Factors Design (LRFD) and Allowable Stress Design (ASD) design.
