Xcom 2 Long War 2 Tech Tree

How to Master the Tech Tree in XCOM 2: Long War 2

XCOM 2: Long War 2 is a mod that overhauls the game and adds new features, such as a worldwide guerrilla war, more strategic and tactical options, and more weapon tiers and research projects. One of the most important aspects of Long War 2 is the tech tree, which determines what items and abilities you can unlock and use in your fight against ADVENT. In this article, we will guide you through the basics of the tech tree, how to prioritize your research, and what to expect from each tech level.

The Basics of the Tech Tree

The tech tree in Long War 2 is divided into four main branches: Weapons, Armor, Engineering, and Psionics. Each branch has its own prerequisites, costs, and benefits. You can access the tech tree by clicking on the Research button in the Avenger's Power Core laboratory. There, you can see all the available and locked research projects, as well as their descriptions and effects.

Some research projects are unlocked by default, while others require you to obtain certain items or complete certain missions. For example, to unlock Laser Weapons, you need to have at least one Elerium Core and one ADVENT Trooper Corpse. To unlock Advanced Explosives, you need to complete a Proving Grounds project called Experimental Grenade.

Some research projects also have sub-projects that unlock specific items or abilities within that tech level. For example, Magnetic Weapons unlocks three sub-projects: Mag Rifle, Mag Pistol, and Mag Shotgun. You need to complete each sub-project separately to get access to each weapon type.

How to Prioritize Your Research

There is no definitive answer to how you should prioritize your research in Long War 2, as it depends on your playstyle, preferences, and situation. However, there are some general guidelines that can help you make better decisions.

Weapons are essential for dealing damage and killing enemies. Upgrading your weapons will increase your chances of hitting and critting enemies, as well as reduce their armor and dodge. Weapons are also relatively cheap and quick to research compared to other branches.

Armor is important for surviving enemy attacks and increasing your mobility. Upgrading your armor will increase your hit points, defense, dodge, and utility slots. Armor is also useful for certain classes that rely on close combat or stealth.

Engineering is useful for improving your infrastructure and resources. Upgrading your engineering will increase your power output, communication capacity, scanning speed, and resistance contacts. Engineering is also necessary for building facilities and items that enhance your capabilities.

Psionics is powerful for unlocking new abilities and classes. Upgrading your psionics will allow you to train psi operatives, who can use various mental powers to manipulate enemies and allies. Psionics is also required for accessing some of the endgame content.

A good rule of thumb is to balance your research between weapons and armor first, then engineering and psionics later. You should also consider your current needs and goals when choosing your research projects. For example, if you are facing a lot of armored enemies, you might want to research Armor-Piercing Rounds or Shredder Guns. If you are struggling with infiltration or stealth missions, you might want to research Silencers or Spider Suits.

What to Expect from Each Tech Level

The tech tree in Long War 2 has six main tech levels: Conventional (Tier 1), Laser (Tier 2), Magnetic (Tier 3), Coil (Tier 4), Plasma (Tier 5), and Fusion (Tier 6). Each tech level has its own advantages and disadvantages, as well as unique items and abilities. Here is a brief overview of what each tech level offers:

Conventional: This is the starting tech level that you begin with. It has low damage output, low accuracy, low armor penetration, and low utility. It also has limited options for customization and upgrades. However, it is cheap
